Adenosine
Adenosine is a nucleoside made of adenine and the sugar ribose. It occurs in every cell, is a building block of ATP and also acts as a signaling molecule.
Medical effects require medical supervision
Intravenous adenosine can affect heart rhythm, blood pressure and breathing. The cited label contraindicates it in certain heart conduction disorders without a functioning pacemaker and in bronchospastic disease such as asthma. These are injection warnings, not measured risk estimates for oral supplements. 1
Why medicines and caffeine matter
Caffeine and related substances can interfere with intravenous adenosine’s activity; dipyridamole can increase it. Follow the medical team’s preparation instructions for an adenosine test. A prescription label does not establish safety for self-directed oral use. 1
