The important risk: misleading blood tests

Supplemental biotin can interfere with certain laboratory methods and produce falsely high or low results. Tests for hormones and heart markers, including troponin used in heart-attack assessment, can be affected. BfR advises telling the clinician or laboratory about current or recent biotin use. 1 2

Does no upper limit mean unlimited use?

Neither the US Food and Nutrition Board nor EFSA has established a tolerable upper intake limit for biotin. That does not remove the separate risk of misleading laboratory results. 2 3
