Colostrum

Colostrum is the milk mammals produce shortly after birth. Supplements usually use bovine colostrum, collected from cows after calving.

Also listed as First Milk, Bovine colostrum

What does the label tell you?

The composition review describes liquids, powders, pills and tablets. A capsule count alone does not show whether its daily quantity resembles the product used in a trial. Compare the actual amount of colostrum with the study’s formulation and amount; the literature spans very different quantities. 1 2 3

Immunoglobulin G, often shortened to IgG, is one component of colostrum. Because the product is a mixture and its composition varies, an IgG percentage alone cannot reproduce the clinical evidence for a particular preparation. The adult studies reviewed used different products and control formulations. 1 3
