Yacon is an Andean root crop. Its syrup contains fructooligosaccharides, or FOS, carbohydrates studied for their effects on gut bacteria.

Bloating was not significantly more frequent than with placebo in the transit trial. Higher FOS intake caused gastrointestinal symptoms and exclusions in the weight trial described by the review. 1 2
