Alpha-Galactosidase
Alpha-galactosidase is an enzyme that breaks down certain complex sugars in beans and some vegetables. Supplement versions are usually produced by fungi.
What do the safety data cover?
No adverse effects were reported in the two-week pediatric trial, but suspected allergies and chronic organic diseases were exclusion criteria. Those results cannot establish long-term safety or safety in people excluded from the study. 1
Persistent symptoms deserve an explanation
Monash emphasizes that digestive symptoms should first have a medical diagnosis. Enzyme supplements as a broad category can have medication interactions or contamination risks, so findings for a specific enzyme and preparation should not be transferred to every multi-enzyme blend. 2
For information, not individual medical advice. Ingredient studies do not establish the effectiveness of these products.
