What side effects occur?
Reported effects include abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea and gas; they are usually mild and short-lived. Small trials reviewed by LiverTox reported no serious or severe adverse effects. 1
What is known about liver safety?
LiverTox has not linked bacopa to clinically apparent liver injury, but notes that few prospective studies reported laboratory results. This is reassuring evidence with limited monitoring, not proof that every product is risk-free. 1
