How much do we know about risk?

No treatment-related adverse events were reported in the small studies in the 2026 review. That cannot establish safety or exclude uncommon harms. The reviewers recommend restricting use to regulated clinical trials. 1

Manufacturing adds another uncertainty

The 2025 review highlights contamination and unregulated manufacturing as concerns alongside unknown human safety. Its animal safety findings cannot establish that a marketed product is safe. 2

What applies to athletes?

The 2026 World Anti-Doping Agency list explicitly includes BPC-157 under S0. For athletes governed by these rules, it is prohibited both in and out of competition. This sports rule is separate from the US compounding policy. 3 4
