Calcium alpha-ketoglutarate
Calcium alpha-ketoglutarate (Ca-AKG) is a calcium salt of alpha-ketoglutarate, an intermediate of the Krebs cycle that cells use in energy metabolism.
What do the studies establish about safety?
The ABLE protocol includes repeated liver, kidney and blood-count tests and recording of adverse events. It excludes pregnancy or planned pregnancy and several serious conditions, including severe kidney disease. A protocol describes precautions; it does not supply completed safety results for these groups. 1
The 1 g daily dose in ABLE is an experimental regimen, not an established longevity intake. The short retrospective aging-clock study does not resolve the safety of taking Ca-AKG for years. 1 2
