Hemp Extract
Hemp extract is made from hemp, varieties of Cannabis sativa low in THC. Depending on the plant part used, it can contain cannabidiol (CBD) and other cannabinoids.
The EU safety assessment has narrow conditions
In 2026, EFSA set a provisional CBD intake of 0.0275 mg/kg body weight daily, about 2 mg for a 70 kg adult. It applies only to at least 98%-pure CBD formulations without nanoparticles, with safe production and excluded genotoxicity. It does not cover people under 25, pregnancy, breastfeeding or medication use. It is not a therapeutic dose or general clearance for hemp extracts. 1
Interactions and liver effects matter
FDA identifies liver injury, medication interactions, drowsiness and diarrhea among CBD risks. Alcohol or medicines that slow brain activity can increase sedation. These are reasons for a medication review, rather than assuming a plant extract is harmless. 2
