Resveratrol can matter when medicines are involved

EFSA identified a potential interaction with medicines processed by the enzyme CYP2C9 and reported digestive symptoms in studies using at least 1 g of resveratrol daily. Health Canada advises professional advice before resveratrol use with medicines or other health products, and during pregnancy or breastfeeding. These cautions concern resveratrol-containing products; they do not amount to a complete safety assessment of whole-root extracts. 1 2

A garden plant is not a standardized supplement

Bavaria’s environmental authority describes knotweed as an invasive plant that spreads through fragments of its underground stems. Its information about edible plant parts does not establish a therapeutic dose or the composition of a homemade extract. 3 4
