Amino acid
L-Methionine
L-methionine is an essential sulfur-containing amino acid that has to come from food. The body uses it to make proteins, cysteine and SAMe.
A cautious European assessment
Norway’s VKM retained a tentative supplemental guidance level of 210 mg daily in 2016. It applied uncertainty factors to adverse-effect data; this is neither a dietary requirement nor a harmonized EU legal maximum. High-dose loading tests have produced nausea, dizziness and blood-pressure changes. 1
