Lithium Orotate
Lithium orotate is a salt of the element lithium and orotic acid. It is sold as a low-dose supplement, unlike lithium carbonate, which is a prescription drug.
Has supplement poisoning been reported?
A case report described nausea, vomiting and mild tremor after an overdose of an internet lithium-orotate product. Symptoms resolved with hospital treatment and observation. A single mild case does not define the risks of other doses or long-term use. 1
Why do medicines and kidney function matter?
German public-health guidance warns that lithium can harm kidneys and the thyroid. Dehydration and interactions with some painkillers and diuretics can increase poisoning risk; the Hessian consumer portal advises against unsupervised use. 2
Medical lithium treatment involves monitoring blood values, including kidney and thyroid tests, because the gap between useful and harmful exposure is narrow. 3
