Magnesium
An essential mineral found in seeds, nuts, beans and leafy greens. The supplement evidence depends on the question: correcting an inadequate intake, improving sleep and preventing migraine are different uses.
Start with the amount of magnesium
When comparing products, look for the amount of elemental magnesium on the label. The weight of a compound, scoop or tablet describes a different quantity.
NIH’s absorption reference reports that citrate is better absorbed than oxide in small studies. It does not establish that citrate or bisglycinate is the better sleep treatment. 6
