Swallowed oil can cause severe poisoning
LiverTox describes rare severe poisoning after neem-oil ingestion, particularly in young children. Vomiting and increasing drowsiness can progress to metabolic acidosis, coma and liver dysfunction; deaths have occurred. A traditional history does not remove this risk. 1
Skin reactions and possible interactions
Topical neem can cause contact dermatitis. Neem extract also inhibited drug-metabolizing enzymes in laboratory experiments, but the significance for medicine interactions in people is unknown. 2
