Olive Leaf
Olive leaf comes from the olive tree, Olea europaea, and is used fresh or dried, as tea, powder or extract. It is distinct from olives and olive oil.
Also listed as Green Olive, Oleae Folium, Olive Fruit, Olive Pulp
Who needs particular caution?
EMA recommends medical advice for people with heart disease or impaired kidney function. Leaf tea is contraindicated when fluid intake must be restricted, for example in severe heart or kidney disease. Pregnancy, breastfeeding and use under age 18 are not recommended because adequate data are lacking. 1
What is known about side effects?
The 2025 hypertension trial reported no significant adverse events over 12 weeks. That is reassuring for its studied population and duration, but does not establish indefinite safety. The EMA monograph records no reported medicine interactions for its traditional preparations. 1 2
