How much could blood pressure change?
A 2022 review of 12 trials involving 819 adults found an average systolic blood-pressure reduction of about 3.9 mmHg. A 2025 trial then studied 621 people already being treated for hypertension: after 12 weeks, the extract group had a greater reduction in 24-hour blood pressure than placebo. 1 2
Findings favor a modest effect, especially in hypertension; the newer trial studied an addition to treatment, not a substitute. 1 2
What about cholesterol and inflammation?
The 2022 review found lower triglycerides overall and some cholesterol improvements in hypertensive subgroups. It found no meaningful overall changes in inflammatory markers; evidence for those markers was low to very low quality. 1
Cholesterol benefits were found in subgroups rather than consistently across all participants. 1
The newer hypertension trial reported lower CRP, an inflammation marker, whereas the earlier pooled analysis found no meaningful overall change. 1 2
