Fatty acid
Alpha-Linolenic Acid
Alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) is an essential omega-3 fatty acid from plants such as flaxseed and walnuts: the body has to get it from food.
Also listed as ALA, α-linolenic acid
Intake targets are not safety ceilings
NIH reports that no tolerable upper intake level has been established for omega-3 fats. That is not evidence that unlimited supplementation is safe. Many high-dose safety findings concern EPA/DHA products and should not automatically be assigned to ALA. 1
