DIM (diindolylmethane) is a compound formed when indole-3-carbinol, found in cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli and cabbage, breaks down.

Also listed as Diindolylmethane

Why is tamoxifen an important interaction?

DIM reduced blood levels of tamoxifen metabolites, including endoxifen, in the randomized trial. The clinical consequences remain uncertain, making concurrent use a question for the treating oncology team. 1

Who needs particular caution?

MSK advises against DIM during pregnancy, when trying to conceive, or while breastfeeding. It recommends consultation for people using oral contraceptives because of possible hormonal effects. 2

What adverse effects have been reported?

Case reports describe visual impairment and a serious rash. The larger cervical study found its studied regimen generally well tolerated; that does not establish safety for every dose or duration. 2 3
