Genistein

Genistein is an isoflavone, a plant compound found mainly in soybeans that can bind to estrogen receptors.

Digestive effects and the limits of reassurance

Gastrointestinal adverse effects were more common with genistein in the bone trial, and its size could not settle uncommon harms. BfR’s isoflavone assessment also leaves uncertainty about longer use and excludes reassurance for people with current or past estrogen-dependent breast or uterine cancer. 1 2
