Hemicellulase is an enzyme that breaks down hemicellulose, a fiber in plant cell walls. The versions in supplements are produced by fungi or other microbes.

Safety depends on the preparation and use

EFSA found no safety concern for the specific xylanase preparation under its intended food-processing conditions. It judged dietary allergy unlikely but not impossible. This is not a blanket safety finding for hemicellulase capsules. 1
