What does the name cover?

EFSA uses hemicellulase as an umbrella term covering enzymes such as xylanase and mannanase. Its xylanase assessment concerns an enzyme made by a specific fungal strain for baking and cereal processing. That is a different question from whether a capsule relieves digestive symptoms. Xylanase breaks xylan carbohydrates into shorter chains. 1

Questions people ask

Does the EFSA opinion prove relief from bloating?

No. It assesses a food-processing enzyme, not treatment of bloating. 1

Does food-enzyme regulation cover digestive capsules?

The European Commission explicitly excludes enzymes consumed for digestive purposes from this regulation. 2

Can a processing assessment establish a supplement dose?

No. The regulation addresses technological food uses, not dosing for digestive treatment. 2
