What does the tolerance trial tell us?
Thirty healthy Japanese men received graded serine doses up to 12 g a day, with each dose taken for four weeks. Researchers reported no treatment-related adverse events. This is useful short-term information in a selected population, not an established upper limit or a recommended dose; the study also included manufacturer-employed authors. 1
Where reassurance runs out
The four-week results do not establish safety during pregnancy, in children, or with long-term use. BfR cautions that large additional amounts of individual amino acids can have unwanted effects. 1 2
