A small opening in sleep research
Two short crossover trials tested 3 g before bed in people dissatisfied with their sleep. Participants reported improvements in aspects of sleep, but the smaller trial’s objective measure of nighttime awakenings did not improve significantly. The experiments lasted only a few nights and involved manufacturer-affiliated researchers. 1
Why the starting point matters
A later tolerance study in healthy men found no overall improvement in sleep quality or mental fatigue. That study was designed mainly to assess safety, so it neither confirms the earlier sleep finding nor settles whether people with sleep complaints might benefit. 1 2
