What does the German safety assessment say?
BfR derived an adult guidance value of 4.0 g/day for supplemental isolated leucine, using animal data because human safety data were insufficient. High isolated BCAA intake may raise blood ammonia. This guidance is not an intake target. 1
BfR advises children, adolescents, pregnant and breastfeeding people to avoid substantial isolated BCAA supplementation. Its guidance does not cover reduced kidney function or low-protein diets; these situations require medical discussion. 1
