Magnesium Glycinate
Magnesium glycinate, or bisglycinate, is a compound that combines magnesium with the amino acid glycine. It is one of the forms of magnesium used in supplements.
Also listed as Magnesium Bisglycinate, Magnesium bisglycinate chelate
Which number on the label matters?
Elemental magnesium means the amount of magnesium itself, rather than the weight of the whole compound. The sleep trial illustrates the difference: each capsule contained 893 mg bisglycinate but supplied 125 mg magnesium. 1
Is it proven to be the gentlest form?
The sleep trial reported good tolerability over four weeks, but it did not compare gastrointestinal effects against other salts. That makes “better tolerated than every other form” a stronger claim than this trial supports. 1
