Fiber
Prebiotics
Prebiotics are substances, mostly types of fiber such as inulin, that gut microbes selectively feed on.
Why can a gut-health product cause gas?
Inulin and related fructans are fermentable carbohydrates that can trigger digestive discomfort. Sensitive people may develop gas or diarrhea even below 10 g daily; this is not a sign that a higher dose is needed. 1
What about extra fiber and fluids?
German consumer guidance emphasizes adequate fluid when adding fiber. Tolerance remains relevant even when an ingredient has an authorized bowel-function claim. 1
