Amino acid derivative
Taurine
Taurine is an amino sulfonic acid that the body can make itself. Unlike protein-building amino acids, it is not built into proteins.
Also listed as 2-aminoethane sulphonic acid, L-Taurine
Which foods supply taurine?
Meat, fish and seafood supply taurine, while plant foods contain little. The body also produces it from amino acids, so low dietary intake alone does not establish deficiency. 1
