Urolithin A

Urolithin A is a compound that gut bacteria make from ellagitannins in foods such as pomegranates, walnuts and berries.

Why pomegranates are mentioned

Gut microbes can form urolithin A from ellagic acid and related plant compounds found in foods such as pomegranates, berries and walnuts. The TGA guideline describes a synthetic version of that metabolite; a capsule and a serving of fruit are different exposures. 1
