Fatty acid
Pentadecanoic Acid
Pentadecanoic acid, or C15:0, is an odd-chain saturated fatty acid found in small amounts in dairy fat and some fish and plants.
What reassurance is available?
The pilot trial reported no significant adverse events. Thirty participants followed for 12 weeks cannot establish long-term safety or reliably detect rare harms. 1
Food-flavoring safety has a narrower meaning
JECFA’s 2023 assessment found no safety concern at current intake levels when pentadecanoic acid is used as a flavoring agent. That conclusion is specific to flavoring exposure; it does not establish the safety of every supplement dose or duration. 2
