Alpha-GPC

Alpha-GPC (glycerophosphocholine) is a choline-containing compound that occurs naturally in the body and in small amounts in food.

Also listed as Alpha GPC, Alpha-glycerylphosphorylcholine, L-alpha-glycerophosphocholin, glycerophosphocholine

Food supplies choline, too

These NIH food values describe total choline, not alpha-GPC alone: one large hard-boiled egg provides 147 mg, half a cup of roasted soybeans 107 mg, and half a cup of canned kidney beans 45 mg. They are practical food sources of the nutrient that alpha-GPC supplies. 1

Choline requirements are not alpha-GPC doses

EFSA sets an adequate intake of 400 mg choline daily for adults, 480 mg in pregnancy and 520 mg while breastfeeding. These are total dietary amounts, not instructions to take that weight of alpha-GPC. 2
