Can it ease a cough or sore throat?
A 2017 review included 33 randomized trials and 7,175 participants with acute respiratory infections. Placebo comparisons favored andrographis for cough and sore throat. However, study quality was generally poor, and the trials mixed single-herb preparations with combinations and often gave little manufacturing detail. 1
The symptom signal is worth taking seriously, but it does not demonstrate a general strengthening of immunity. The review’s lack of serious adverse events also does not rule out rare harms detected later in routine use. 1
