Can it ease gas and bloating?
A four-week trial randomized 70 adults with functional gas and bloating to MTCC 5856 or placebo. Symptom scores improved more with the bacterium. All authors were affiliated with the supplier, and stool type did not differ significantly between groups. 1
A small trial supports a possible benefit for this strain and symptom pattern. 1
What about diarrhea-predominant IBS?
An eight-week pilot trial of GBI-30, 6086 found fewer daily bowel movements than placebo among 52 evaluable people with diarrhea-predominant IBS. Baseline variability prevented a useful assessment of symptom severity and quality of life. This is a narrower result than overall IBS relief. 2
