What do the cholesterol studies show?
A 2026 meta-analysis of 24 studies found modest reductions in cholesterol and several metabolic markers. Evidence certainty was low for body mass index and very low for most other outcomes. These findings justify further study, but do not establish prevention of heart attacks. 1
Cholesterol changes are promising, but the very low certainty leaves the size and reliability of benefit uncertain. 1
What about blood pressure?
An earlier review of 19 trials involving 797 participants found average reductions of about 4.5 mmHg in systolic and 1.6 mmHg in diastolic blood pressure. It found no significant change in HDL cholesterol, triglycerides or body mass index. 2
Pooled blood pressure results were favorable, but they do not establish the same response to every chlorella product. 2
