Chromium

Chromium is a trace mineral found in small amounts in foods such as whole grains, meat and broccoli. It is mostly studied for blood sugar.

Is there an upper limit?

No US upper limit was set because safety data are limited. Kidney or liver disease warrants particular caution. 1

How does German guidance differ?

BfR proposes a maximum of 60 µg per supplement daily dose for adults and adolescents aged 15 or older. This is a product recommendation, not a nutritional target. 2

Which medicines matter?

Chromium may increase hypoglycemia risk with insulin or diabetes medicines and reduce levothyroxine absorption. Medication use warrants professional review. 1
