CoQ10 may interact with warfarin and insulin and may be incompatible with some cancer treatments. NCCIH also lists digestive upset and insomnia among possible mild effects. These are reasons to discuss a proposed product with the treating team, especially during cancer care. 1

Where are the safety gaps?

BfR highlights inadequate safety data in pregnancy, breastfeeding, children, and adolescents. It recommends avoiding products with relevant daily doses in these groups or obtaining medical assessment first. 2

What doses were actually studied?

The fatigue review included, for example, 100–150 mg daily for 12 weeks in otherwise healthy people with fatigue and 500 mg daily for 12 weeks in multiple sclerosis. Different populations and regimens cannot establish one general-purpose dose. 3
