Gamma Oryzanol

Gamma oryzanol is a mixture of plant compounds called sterol ferulates, obtained from rice bran oil.

Also listed as γ-Oryzanol

Tolerability is reassuring but incomplete

A manufacturer-submitted safety dossier hosted by FDA summarizes small human studies in which gamma-oryzanol products were generally well tolerated. Some studies were uncontrolled, and durations were limited. This is not equivalent to an independent finding that every supplement is safe for indefinite use. 1

What this evidence cannot settle

The exercise trials involved men, and the metabolic trial involved adults with type 2 diabetes. These studies do not establish safety for children or during pregnancy, nor were they designed as comprehensive drug-interaction studies. Those questions remain outside the evidence reviewed here. 2 3 4

For information, not individual medical advice. Ingredient studies do not establish the effectiveness of these products.
