Ginger

Ginger is the underground stem (rhizome) of Zingiber officinale, a tropical plant used as a spice and in traditional medicine.

Also listed as Zingiber officinale, Ginger Root Extract, Ginger Root Powder, Ginger Powder

Powder, extract or combination?

The clinical literature includes powdered ginger and extracts, sometimes with other ingredients. Cultivation and processing affect its constituents. Reading the amount and preparation together is therefore more informative than comparing milligrams alone; a combination trial cannot establish the independent effect of ginger. 1

What does the EMA assessment cover?

EMA assesses herbal medicines, which must meet pharmaceutical quality requirements. Its conclusions do not automatically apply to food supplements. The agency distinguishes clinically supported use of a particular powder from traditional indications based on longstanding use rather than clinical proof. 2
