Can ginger worsen stomach symptoms?

Oral ginger can cause abdominal discomfort, heartburn, diarrhea, and irritation of the mouth or throat. That matters when the reason for using it is already a digestive complaint. NCCIH advises discussing herbal products with a clinician when medicines are taken. 1

How should pregnancy evidence be interpreted?

NCCIH says supplements may be safe during pregnancy but recommends consultation before use; breastfeeding safety is poorly known. EMA advises against its assessed ginger medicines in pregnancy and breastfeeding. The difference calls for product-specific advice rather than assuming that evidence of nausea relief establishes safety for every preparation. 1 2

Is there one proven daily dose?

The gastrointestinal review describes varied regimens and calls for better dose-finding studies. Around 1 g daily appears in several pregnancy trials, but that does not establish a universal dose for joint pain, indigestion or long-term use. The preparation and the condition studied remain part of the evidence. 3
