Magnesium Threonate
Magnesium L-threonate is a chemically manufactured salt of magnesium and threonic acid, a breakdown product of vitamin C, used as a magnesium source in supplements.
Does it improve sleep?
A 21-day trial assigned 80 adults aged 35–55 with self-reported sleep problems to 1 g daily or placebo. Some wearable sleep scores and daytime measures improved, but overall insomnia severity did not improve significantly more than placebo. 1
Why does the correction matter?
A 2025 correction disclosed retrospective registration and a fuller conflict-of-interest statement: AIDP commissioned and funded the trial, held patents, and paid several authors. These details matter when weighing the findings. 2
What about memory and concentration?
In a 2026 industry-funded trial, 100 adults aged 18–45 dissatisfied with their sleep received 2 g daily or placebo for six weeks. A combined cognitive score and self-reported sleep-related impairment improved. Reasoning and objective sleep measures did not improve more than placebo. 3
