Does rutin protect blood vessels?

That remains an open clinical question. A small trial in people with type 2 diabetes reported lower blood pressure, but it did not establish prevention of cardiovascular disease. The EU register published in 2013 lists the submitted vascular and antioxidant claims as unsubstantiated. 1 2

Questions people ask

Is an antioxidant claim proof of health protection?

No. The EU register records that the submitted claim about protecting DNA, proteins and lipids was not substantiated by the evidence assessed. 2

Did rutin improve gut bacteria?

The 12-week capsule and yogurt trial did not find a change in gut bacterial composition. 3

Does the blood-pressure study prove fewer heart attacks?

No. It measured blood pressure and laboratory markers, not cardiovascular events. 1
