Mineral
Silica
Silica is silicon dioxide, a compound of silicon and oxygen found in sand, quartz and plants such as horsetail. Supplements use it as a source of silicon.
Is silicon already in food?
Water, grains, and vegetables supply silicon; examples include oats, barley, potatoes, and spinach. These ordinary sources do not require a supplement. 1
