Can it help joint discomfort?
A 2017 trial randomized 105 overweight adults to a standardized aqueous fruit extract or placebo for 84 days. The extract, studied at 250 or 500 mg twice daily, improved several joint-comfort and functional measures. Most outcomes did not differ significantly between doses. The manufacturer-funded study supports further research on that extract, not all haritaki products. 1
What does a laboratory pain test show?
In a crossover trial of 12 healthy volunteers, one 1,000 mg dose increased mechanical pain threshold and tolerance versus placebo three hours later. No adverse reactions were reported. This preliminary human result does not establish sustained relief in arthritis or other chronic pain conditions. 2
