Zinc L-carnosine
Zinc L-carnosine, or polaprezinc, is a compound of zinc and the dipeptide L-carnosine, developed in Japan as a stomach medicine.
Also listed as PepZin GI, zinc l carnosine, zinc-l-carnosine, zinc carnosine
How do study doses compare with EU guidance?
The European adult upper limit for total zinc is 25 mg daily from all sources. Germany’s BfR recommends no more than 6.5 mg in a supplement’s daily serving. These values concern zinc itself and are not recommended doses of the carnosine complex. 1
Copper and medicines matter
High zinc intakes can cause nausea and stomach upset. Doses of 50 mg zinc or more for weeks can impair copper absorption. Zinc can also reduce absorption of quinolone or tetracycline antibiotics and penicillamine; these interactions require attention when combining products with treatment. 2
