A small blood-sugar signal
An uncontrolled pilot gave 13 volunteers 250 mg of extract daily for 30 days. Post-meal glucose fell in both starting-glucose groups; pre-meal improvements appeared in the higher-glucose group. Without a placebo group, the study cannot establish how much the extract caused these changes. The manufacturer funded it. 1
The pilot supports further testing, not a reliable glucose-lowering promise. 1
What did the controlled trial find?
A 2022 randomized trial compared a branded clove polyphenol extract with glutathione in 70 adults with metabolic syndrome for 84 days. It reported improvements in antioxidant, glucose and lipid markers. This active-comparator study is a useful preliminary signal, but changes in laboratory markers do not establish fewer illnesses or complications. 2
