Flavonols

Flavonols are a subgroup of flavonoids, plant pigments found in onions, kale, apples, tea and berries. Quercetin, kaempferol and myricetin are the best-known examples.

Also listed as Citrus Bioflavonoids, Citrus Bioflavonoid, Bioflavonoids, Bioflavonoid

Food intake and concentrated doses are different

A safety review by German BfR researchers found mostly mild reported adverse effects in quercetin trials, but inadequate data for high doses of at least 1,000 mg daily beyond 12 weeks. That gap is not a safe long-term dose recommendation. 1

Can supplements affect medicines?

The same review describes altered drug availability in human and animal studies of quercetin. It also flags kidney concerns from animal studies involving already damaged kidneys. These findings warrant caution with concentrated products and cannot quantify the risk for every flavonol. 1
