Bacteria
Lactobacillus
Lactobacillus is a group of rod-shaped lactic acid bacteria found in the gut, mouth and vagina and in fermented foods. In 2020 many of its species were moved into new genera.
Which label details matter?
The genus, species and strain identify the organism. Colony-forming units (CFU) estimate viable organisms; a larger count does not automatically mean a better product. Storage instructions and a count guaranteed through expiry are more useful than a count measured only at manufacture. 1
