TB-500
TB-500 is a synthetic peptide derived from thymosin beta-4, a small protein found in most human cells.
What explains the interest in tissue repair?
A 2003 experiment found that the non-acetylated LKKTETQ fragment promoted skin-wound repair in aged mice. It contains an actin-binding region, linked to cellular structure and movement. This is a biological lead, not evidence that injected TB-500 heals human tendons or improves recovery. 1 2
What about human thymosin trials?
A 2015 trial tested full-length thymosin beta-4 eye drops in 72 people with dry eye for 28 days. Neither primary endpoint improved significantly, although several secondary measures did. These mixed findings concern an eye-drop formulation and a different molecule, not TB-500 for musculoskeletal recovery. 3
