Blood sugar: the measures did not all agree
A 2023 review pooled 14 trials with 894 participants. HbA1c fell by an average 0.88 percentage points, while fasting and after-meal glucose differences were not statistically significant. Differences between studies and concerns about quality make the average an uncertain prediction for an individual. 1
A favorable HbA1c result, alongside unclear fasting and after-meal glucose effects. 1
Testosterone in saliva is not the whole story
In a 12-week trial, 95 men aged 40–80 completed treatment with placebo or 600–1,800 mg daily of a specific extract. All groups also received the same vitamins and minerals. Pooled extract groups had higher saliva testosterone than placebo, but no statistically clear advantage in blood testosterone or reported subjective outcomes, including libido. 2
Saliva and blood results differed; the trial did not demonstrate a corresponding subjective benefit. 2
Can it increase milk supply?
LactMed reports conflicting reviews: one found a modest increase, another no good evidence of benefit. Some trials tested mixtures, making fenugreek’s own contribution unclear. Assessment of feeding and milk removal remains important; supplements should not replace that support. 3
