Hesperidin
Hesperidin is a flavonoid that occurs naturally in citrus fruit, especially in the peel.
Also listed as hesperitin-7-O-rutinoside, Hesperitin glycoside, glucosyl hesperidin, Vitamin P
What happens to cholesterol?
A meta-analysis of 12 trials with 589 completers found modest reductions in total and LDL cholesterol. HDL and triglycerides did not improve overall, and blood pressure was unchanged. The studies measured risk markers rather than heart attacks or strokes. 1
Some lipid markers improved; broad cardiovascular protection was not tested. 1
Can it reduce inflammation?
A 2026 review of 16 trials in 845 overweight or obese participants found a modest reduction in CRP, a blood marker of inflammation. Evidence for other markers was less consistent or less certain. The review combined hesperidin with hesperidin-containing citrus interventions, which limits conclusions about one particular capsule. 2
A modest CRP signal does not establish treatment of inflammatory disease. 2
What does an antioxidant result mean?
In a six-week trial, 64 people with type 2 diabetes received 500 mg of hesperidin daily or placebo. Several markers of oxidative damage improved. This supports a biological effect in that setting, but does not establish fewer diabetes complications or a benefit for healthy people. 3
