Can it lower blood pressure?
A 2023 meta-analysis pooled three blood-pressure trials with 223 participants. Average reductions versus placebo were approximately 3.5 mmHg systolic and 2.3 mmHg diastolic. This modest signal does not establish prevention of heart attacks or strokes. 1
Short-trial pooled findings were positive, while the longer trial found no blood-pressure effect. 1 2
What happened over three years?
A trial randomized 265 adults without clinical cardiovascular disease to 2,000 fibrinolytic units daily or placebo. Over a median three years, artery-wall thickening, arterial stiffness, blood pressure and laboratory outcomes did not significantly differ. The result concerns this dose and relatively low-risk population. 2
